Day 1: Departure

September 3, 2019
Victoria to VIA Rail train #4

30-40km (vague due to inadvertently resetting my trip odometer)
Average: 20.8km/h

In honour of Jessi who drove me to the ferry:
Today is departure day
The train is chugging away
From Vancouver to Jasper
I can’t cycle faster
But I’ll bike back the long scenic way!

    Alright!
Found your blog and glad you took the scenic route –using the train, the best buffer esp with the tail-end of the summer traffic.
Wish you all the best on your trip back to Victoria!

Hi Alice, I found another exciting cycle adventure for you. The scenery on the route from Lillooet through Whistler is spectacular, and there are lots of “summer only” roads that would make nice loops. Lots of campsites too. Though I must admit there were many 11% grades, and even a 20%!, (though I think that was a detour I didn’t take).
The fridges are stuffed with vegetables for your return. I hope all is going well.
